When you arrive in Katooomba, you are bound to go to Eco Point to see the Three Sisters. Those 3 huge rocks lost in the eucalyptus forest are famous for the nice pictures you can take of them and for the Gundungurra legend that explains their name.

– Hey mum, looks like some people are walking to the three sisters, I’d love to go there !
– Ok, on the map it looks like it’s the Giant Stairway. I won’t go all the way through with you but let’s go.

Humm, maybe they named it this way in reference to the three giant sisters. The lookout doesn’t look that far away.
Let’s go.
Oh but, why do all the people I cross on the stairway look exhausted to walk up a bunch of stairs, even the young one… ?
Humm… maybe the giant stairway doesn’t stop at the Sisters… let’s have a look.
Ok, more steps going down. High steps. Short steps. Slippery rocky steps…. Sometimes slippery see through iron steps to cross huge holes. Steps all the way to the bottom of the valley. Now I get why people are exhausted in the end !

But, is it worth it ?
On the way down, you see the same things you saw from above. Then you go under the trees and so what ?
Maybe it’s a nice sporty walk, specially when you come from the falls but going down to come straight back up doesn’t look so fascinating.
I can hear the weather getting bad down the valley, I don’t want to go back on this stairway with wet stairs so let’s stop here (half way).
It’s not so hard to go back up. Maybe because it’s just half the stairs.

And now, new challenge : find mum before the rain comes pouring.
