5 A.M., the tuk tuk is ready to go.

-Yes

-Can you check please?

This tuk tuk sounds like our parents… but I guess it’s out of habit, so many tourists must forget their tickets and then loose time coming back to the guesthouse… So here we go, after the ticket check we ride in the night. Everything is peaceful. Once again, the tuk tuk races in the night and I can feel the wind in my hair while I look at the shadow of the tuk tuk’s basket running on the road like some sort of packman, eating the holes on the road. The basket looks as wide as the road.

Early morning video game dreaming…

This time, no bus full of tourists where the tuk tuk leaves us, just 4 people waiting for the sun to rise… and a bunch of people trying to sell us everything : coffee, pants, postcards, magnets… I guess you statistically see less of them when there are more tourists but those ones won’t spoil the pleasure of this moment. You just seat on the edge of what remains of a former huge bathroom and you watch as the first colors appear in the sky. I think the last time I did so was in Kauai. No matter if it’s cloudy, just looking at the first colors of the day, at the shades going stronger, at the artificial lights going off, at people starting their day, at the animals waking up is so magical. Like that time of the day, just before dawn, when all the insects start singing at once, as if someone told them it’s now or never.

I’ve seen a lot of sunsets in my life and it’s always nice to look at the sun going down on a nice day. But sunrises are even more precious, if you watch them, it’s the first thing you do in the morning (except if you had decided not to sleep…), it’s how you will start your day : a good meditation before going on some new adventures, a good way to load your batteries for a long day to come.

And an other nice thing you know is that, starting your day so early, wherever you will go in the next few hours, the colors will be magical (and the air should still be quite fresh).
