First day, first temple

Day 1 in Siem Reap- after a loooong bumpy-cold bus trip, I just want to rest. Of course, tuk tuks don’t see it that way :

– I take you to the big trip! Up at 5 A.M to see the sun rise.

– No I’m tiered.

– Ok, I take you to the small trip, up at 7 A.M.

– No, I’m still tiered, I still want to rest, I’ll see the temples tomorrow.

But in the end, they convinced my travelling mate so… up for a tuk tuk ride to see the sunset on Phnom Bakeng.

Hair in the wind, sun on my face, with a scarf around my face I would almost feel like a French movie star enjoying a car ride on the Riviera. Our tuk tuk is the fastest, we cross other tuk tuks, cars, bikes… one thing is for sure : we won’t miss the sunset because of him!

One other thing is for sure, I probably wouldn’t have chosen this spot to see the sunset myself…

Where the tuktuk leaves us, at the parking down of the temple, we can already see the buses of tourists walking to the temple. We walk quicker and arrive sooner to the temple but still we’re not the first ones there, the temple is full of tourists taking all sort of tourist pictures… It’s quite a challenge to take a picture without anyone on it. You have to queue to take some of the best pictures. Although it’s not the most famous temple, it is the most famous hour to visit this temple.

I feel sad for the religious people who came here to pray a Buddha : they can’t do it peacefully, people trying to “catch the sun” for a picture will walk on them.

The view is nice but not so stunning. So we go back before the end of the sunset. One funny thing is to look back when we are down to try and play at “where is waldo”.

Où est Chami?
