Pieces of Sydney

After 3 months away from the big cities , 3 months in the mountains, near the see, in the farms… landing in Sydney was big a change. Even Auckland is not such a big city with its wide streets full of smiling people.

Sydney is full of cars, big and tall buildings, people taking public transportation to go to work. Still, Sydney is nothing compared to European or American big cities. Here, people don’t look in any hurry to get out of work. They don’t look depressed by day to day life. They look… spineless. Not really smiling but not really depressed either. Students wear their school uniforms, with the hat for the younger ones to protect them from the hard sun. A few workers wear suits, some wear builders uniforms, most of them wear casual clothes, flip flops etc.

During lunch time, the huge parks are so full of joggers you could believe an untold race is taking place in front of you.

Here, you take a ferry for 20 minutes or so and you can rest at a quiet beach far from the busy centre. No wonder so many European people love this city.

But still, coming from 3 months in smaller cities, Sydney feels too big for me and I’m paying more attention to the small old buildings than to the huge city centre.
