This story doesn’t smell so good…

Rotorua was built on a volcanic area. And so what ?

Like Yosemite in the US or Vulcano Island in Sicilia, this place is famous for its healthy properties and… its bad smell.

A good way to discover the interest of living near such a bad smelling area is to visit a mauri village. Mauris have been living there for hundreds of years, they know how to use at best what Nature offers here.

Here, Mauris don’t need electricity to heat anything :

– you dig a hole and put your diner inside. In the morning, when you come back at night your diner is cooked and warm, never burned

– you take a warm bath in bathtubs using water from the hot water pools

– you cure yourself with volcanic mud

– you cook your corn directly in naturally warm pools

– ..

All thanks to the volcano!

After visiting the village, you walk around and among some hot mud pools.

It sure is a weird but healthy and economical place to live.
